Changes to window treatments don't happen lightly. Products that are seemingly 'new' have probably been around for a few years. Those in the industry are exposed to these innovations but it can take a looooong time for them to become popular.

ALLUSION BLINDS

Take Allusion Blinds for example. They are cross between a curtain (the floaty fabric part) and a vertical blind (the swiveling vane in a headrail part). You can even get them motorised. There was huge excitement in the last few years from suppliers and resellers. They thought the market would be taken by storm. The design is elegant and very practical for large expanses of window. Think bifold doors and conservatories or extensions. They are available in so many colours and have already taken off in places like Dubai. So although they have been around at least three years, they have yet to make an impact in the UK. We think they will be more popular in 2026 as more people learn about them.

PANTONE COLOUR OF THE YEAR

Here it is, the Pantone colour of the year - you know, the choice/s that influence not only interiors but global fashion design too.

Your eyes are not deceiving you, it is a slightly shaded white.

This must be the least exciting Pantone colour for many years. But it does mean that plain window treatments in shades of white are all in!

And the idea is to pair Cloud Dancer with pastels.

Creating a clean, interesting look in contrast to the years of grey/beige dominance in interiors.

WOOD VENETIANS

Wood and fauxwood venetian blinds will still top the popularity stakes in 2026. Not much change there. They are a product that works very well so no innovation needed. White and warm white slats go with almost any decor, making them a safe choice.

SHUTTERS

Shutters are not strictly blinds but the colour white and shades thereof will still be immensely in demand.

PLEATED BLINDS

2025 was the year of honeycomb pleated blinds. The trend will continue in 2026. Simply because they are the most effective blind for regulating temperatures.

Got a super sunny window or patio doors that let in heat? Cellular blinds in dim-out fabrics will let in diffused light, taking the sharpness off glaring sunlight as well as forming a barrier to keep cooler air inside.

They do a great job in winter too. By creating a layer of air in the cells, the heated air in the room is not in contact with the cold air next to the glass, thereby reducing heatng bills too. Blackout cellular fabrics are effective as roof blinds and in bedrooms or TV rooms.

METAL VENETIAN BLINDS

These blinds have been maligned for years. They were an incredible invention in the 1900's and became the go-to blind for offices and apartment blocks. They are light in weight so large windows could be covered. Made from aluminium they don't rust. And we all know how easy they are to open and close. But they developed a reputation for being difficult to clean and for looking 'officey'. Now glossy paint finishes help to shrug off dust, making them easier to clean and the wide choice of colours and slat sizes are fuelling a come-back for these versatile window blinds. They are even available in Perfect Fit frames to attach to glass patio doors and tilt-and-turn windows.

VERTICAL BLINDS

The old faithful vertical blind has had some classy innovations in the past few years. Let's start with headrails (the track), once only available in white, the colour choice has expanded over time. Now available in finishes like silver, cream, black, grey and brown with matching hardware to give a modern look. Having wands to open and close the blinds means no unsightly cords or chains to worry about. Bottom weights no longer need the chains to clip them together, meaning children and pets can move between louvres with ease. Solid PVC slats have been around for some time but increasing numbers of people are using them for bathrooms and wetrooms because they can handle moist environments and look classy.

ROLLER BLINDS

Ever popular, these blinds are cost effective and easy to use. The demand for motorised roller blinds has exploded as technology improves and prices have reduced. Not only can you open and close your motorised blinds at the touch of a button, but you can program them to stop in different positions. There are apps and hubs that allow you to pre-program set times for blinds to open and close, even when you are away so it looks like someone is home. SMART home setups can have blinds integrated to their systems. A boon for those who like technology and gadgets.

ROOF BLINDS

These beautiful extensions with skylights and roof lanterns have one drawback, too much bright light coming in can make rooms feel uncomfortable. Leading to headaches, eyestrain and diffculty looking at screens. Welcome to pleated roof blinds. They can be motorised, so hard to reach windows can be covered. Some even have solar powered batteries so you dont have to recharge them once or twice a year like other batteries. Dim-out fabrics diffuse the light whilst blackout fabrics darken the room. There is a blackout version that blocks out almost 100% of incoming light. Perfect for those who struggle to sleep during light summer nights and early mornings.

ROMAN BLINDS

Will still be desireable in 2026. We have noticed a move to plainer fabrics over the past two years and we think this will continue. Demand for motorised roman blinds is increasing year-on-year, as well as plush fabrics. Gone are the days of home sewn blinds, now romans have sleek header rails with sidewinders for chains (if they aren't motorised). They add softness without the bulk of curtains. The huge range of fabrics and colours means they can match any decor, unlike most other blinds that have limitations.

Have you got plans to refresh your windows in 2026? Go for convenience, colour and functionality. They should easily last around five years or more so choose for longevity.
